The invention relates to a checking and authentication method and system. The invention includes a first step comprising: the use of a terminal (2); the reading, entry and capture of an identification code of the object (1) to be checked, the terminal (2) having been connected to a server containing a database of object indicators (4); the use of a calculation module and the database (4) to determine the indicator (42) corresponding to the identification code; and the transmission of the indicator (42) to the terminal (2) via a telecommunication network (3). The invention also includes a second step in which: with the terminal (2) connected to a server containing a database of object qualities (5), at least one calculation module (24) is used to determine the expression of the estimated location of the object (511); the expression of the estimated location (511) is transmitted to the terminal (2); and a first comparison is made between the expression of the recorded location and the expression of the estimated location (511). In a third step, if the recorded location corresponds to the estimated location (511) the object is deemed to be authentic.
