<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in-vehicle image pickup device capable of checking a status outside a vehicle by shortening a period during an in-vehicle camera of one's own vehicle is dazzled by a headlight of an oncoming vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The in-vehicle image pickup device comprises a signal source 1 for generating the flash timing of a headlight 3, an illumination control unit 2 for controlling the flash of the headlight, and a camera control unit 4 for controlling the exposure time of a camera 5. The signal source 1 has a constant lighting period, and generates a flash timing signal Sa in which the timing of the lighting period for each predetermined period is changed by at least a predetermined value. The headlight 3 is flashed synchronously with the flash timing signal Sa generated by the signal source 1.
