PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a current collecting characteristic while preventing an increase of a material of a grid base for a lead-acid battery. SOLUTION: In the grid base for the lead-acid storage battery formed into a square shape surrounded by a surrounding skeleton, having an ear protrusively formed from the surrounding skeleton, and having lateral and vertical intermediate skeletons orthogonal to each other in the surrounding skeleton, and formed between the surrounding skeletons facing each other, auxiliary intermediate skeletons extending inward from the surrounding skeleton on which the ear is protrusively formed without reaching the facing surrounding skeleton are formed between the intermediate skeletons. The intermediate skeletons positioned near to the protrusively formed ear and the auxiliary intermediate skeletons are formed to gradually become thicker toward the surrounding skeleton having the ear formed thereon, and the surrounding skeleton having the ear attached thereto is formed to gradually become thicker toward the ear. A reinforced grid mass obtained by totalizing those of the auxiliary intermediate skeletons, those of the thickened intermediate skeletons and that of the thickened part of the surrounding skeleton is set not smaller than 17% of a fundamental grid base mass.
