PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an after-image phenomenon in a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: A first sustain pulse for generating light emission having two peaks in a discharge cell, a second sustain pulse which rises similarly to the first sustain pulse and falls more sharply than the first sustain pulse, a third sustain pulse which rises and falls more sharply than the first sustain pulse to generate light emission having one peak in the discharge cell, and a fourth sustain pulse which rises similarly to the third sustain pulse and falls similarly to the first sustain pulse, are switched and generated, the third sustain pulses are continuously generated the predetermined number of times, the second sustain pulse is generated once immediately before the continuous generation of the third sustain pulse, and the fourth sustain pulse is generated once immediately after the continuous generation of the third sustain pulse.
