PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and the like capable of obtaining satisfactory display quality with respect to the liquid crystal display device having a retardation layer.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 50 comprises: a pair of substrates 110, 210; a liquid crystal layer 300 sandwiched between the pair of substrates 110, 210; the retardation layer 214 disposed on at least one side substrate of the pair of substrates 110, 210 via an alignment film 212 for retardation layer; a color filter 220 which is arranged on the position nearer to the liquid crystal layer 300 than the retardation layer 214; and an overcoat layer 216 arranged so as to cover the retardation layer 214 between the color filter 220 and the retardation layer 214.
