PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of detecting the voltage of an output terminal of the discharge lamp lighting device with a simple structure, and of discriminating abnormality in the discharge lamp lighting device from that of the outside thereof while suppressing increase of circuit scale and increase of cost. SOLUTION: Output terminals 4a and 4b of a D.C./A.C. inverter 2 are connected to each other through resistors 12 and 13, and a central point voltage Vcent between the output terminals 4a and 4b is detected from a connection point between the resistor 12 and the resistor 13, and input to a CPU 5. The CPU 5 discriminates abnormality having occurred in the discharge lamp lighting device from abnormality having occurred in an output path connected to the output terminals 4a and 4b by using the central point voltage Vcent, and outputs a signal showing the occurrence of the abnormality to the outside by using a communication part 16.
