PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic detecting element maintaining or increasing Mr×t while keeping high coercive force even if thickness of a hard bias layer is reduced in order to improve structure of the both side lamination parts and to make the both side lamination parts thinner than before. SOLUTION: A bias substrate 29 is formed under the hard bias layer 26, a high Ms magnetic layer 27 of which the saturation magnetization Ms is larger than the hard bias layer 26 is formed on the hard bias layer 26, an upper part shield layer 31 is formed on the high Ms magnetic layer 27 through a non-magnetic protection layer 28. Thereby, Mr×t same as before can be secured even if thickness t2 of the hard bias layer 26 is reduced in order to reduce total thickness t1 of the both side lamination parts 22. Also, orientation of the hard bias layer 26 can be kept, and a sufficiently usable high value of coercive force Hc can be secured as the hard bias layer 26. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
