PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which can prevent rubbing of a recording sheet to a recording head or jamming during conveyance regardless of the setting state of the sheet at the sheet feed section. SOLUTION: The recorder comprises a platen 34 for guiding a sheet, bail members 711 and 712 arranged at the opposite sides on the platen in order to regulate floating of the sheet at the opposite fringe portions, a means 714 for detecting the width of the sheet, and a means 716 for detecting the position of the bail member wherein the bail member is moved based on the positional information of the fringe of sheet acquired by the sheet width detection means, and the positional information of the bail member acquired by the bail position detection means.
