PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating asbestos of a composite containing asbestos and the like capable of efficiently decomposing (defiberizing) fibrous asbestos by scattering no fibrous asbestos, specially in a highly reinforced composite containing asbestos such as slate materials that are disposed of. SOLUTION: After the composite containing asbestos containing the fibrous asbestos and cement is immersed in a preliminary reaction liquid containing sodium chloride or both sodium chloride and calcium chloride to impregnate the preliminary reaction liquid in the composite, a mechanical strength of the composite is deteriorated by heating the same at a temperature of 560 to 700°C and is crushed into grains. Then, the crushed composite is immersed in a main reaction liquid containing calcium chloride or both calcium chloride and sodium chloride to impregnate the main reaction liquid in the composite; thereafter, chemical bonds of Mg and Si in the asbestos compounds are cut by heating the composite at a temperature of 710 to 960°C to decompose (defiberize) the fibrous asbestos.
