<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively reduce steering burdens of a driver by generating a steering assist force by an actuator of a transmission ratio variable device when such abnormality occurs to a steering assist force giving means that the steering assist force cannot be given. <P>SOLUTION: This device comprises a transmission ratio variable device 20 changing a transmission ratio by relatively rotating an output shaft 18 to an input shaft 16, a lock device 56 switched to a lock-on condition for avoiding change of the transmission ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft, and a control device 70 controlling the transmission ratio variable device and the lock device. The transmission ratio variable device has an electric motor 26 and a deceleration mechanism 27, and a stator 28 of the electric motor is fixed to a vehicle body 32. When abnormaliby occurs to steering assist force giving means that the steering assist force cannot be given, the control device stops the control of the transmission ratio, switches the lock device to the lock-on condition, and generates an auxiliary steering assist force by the electric motor 26. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
