PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert allowing a worker to handle chips smoothly without increasing cutting resistance even when widening groove width by feeding the insert in the horizontal direction when machining a groove. SOLUTION: In this cutting insert, a cutting edge part 2 having a square-shaped cutting face 5 provided with a pair of horizontal cutting edges 3 extended in the longitudinal direction of a shaft-like insert main body 1 and a front cutting edge 4 extended in the direction crossing the longitudinal direction between tips of these horizontal cutting edges 3 is formed in an end part of the insert main body 1. Each of a pair of protruding bar parts 11 extended toward a corner part 6 where the pair of horizontal cutting edges 3 and the front cutting edge 4 cross mutually is formed on the cutting face 5. Each of the pair of these protruding bar parts 11 is provided with an external wall face 14 facing an adjacent horizontal cutting edge 3 side and having a convex face protruding toward the horizontal cutting edge 3 side when viewed from the direction opposing to the cutting face 5 vertically in the longitudinal direction.
