<p>This invention provides a plasma display panel which can realize the prevention of adsorption of water and carbon compounds on a secondary electron release layer in the plasma display panel and the prevention of damage to the secondary electron release layer by sputtering upon discharge. The plasma display panel comprises a front substrate (2) and a back substrate (4). The front substrate comprises a transparent substrate (6), a first electrode (a sustaining electrode and a scanning electrode) (8), a dielectric layer (12), a secondary electron release layer (32), and a surface protective layer (34). The back substrate comprises a substrate(16), a second electrode (an address electrode) (18), a dielectric layer (22), a partition wall (24), and a phosphor layer (18). The secondary electron release layer is formed of magnesium oxide (MgO), and the surface protective layer is formed of boron nitride (BN) having a smaller secondary electron release coefficient than MgO, having a larger hardness than MgO, and a smaller water and carbon compound adsorption than MgO.</p> |
