PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital composite machine which can suppress deterioration of image quality without increasing time required for the processing in a case to enlarge a display size of a read image. SOLUTION: The machine comprises: an image reading unit which creates a read image by optical reading of an original; an image shrink processing unit 24 which reduces a number of pixels of the read image, and creates image data for reference; a display image creation unit 26 which selectively creates either of a plurality of image data for display whose number of pixels are different based on the image data for reference; and an operation and display unit which displays the image data for display on a screen. The image shrink processing unit 24 creates the image data for reference with a number of pixels more than the maximum number of pixels of the image data for reference, the display image creation unit 26 creates the image data for reference whose pixel number is more than the image data for display which are being displayed at the time based on the image data for the image data for reference held by a reference image memory unit 25 in a case that change of the display size is indicated by a user.
