PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering system capable of varying the length of a knuckle arm in correspondence with a status of steering operation and restraining steering auxiliary force less than conventional one. SOLUTION: A tie rod end 6a which is an end part of a tie rod 6 is connected to one end 24a of the knuckle arm 24 through a ball joint 23, and the other end 24b is connected to a tire wheel 14 through a knuckle 25 to hold the tire wheel free to rotate. A linear drive actuator 30 is arranged in the middle of the one end 24a and the other end 24b of the knuckle arm 24. The steering operation in the neighborhood of the rack end is restrained lighter and the steering auxiliary force is restrained less by setting desired knuckle arm length by actuating the linear drive actuator 30 when vehicle velocity V stops or is extremely low and an steering angleθexceeds a previously set prescribed value or when the vehicle velocity stops or is extremely low and steering torque exceeds a previously set prescribed value.
