PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system for an automobile by which route search information is changed automatically so as to give priority to a general road, when the automobile running along a search route is changed from running operation to an expressway on the basis of the route search information so as to give priority to the expressway, and to provide a navigation method. SOLUTION: A route is searched on the basis of a search condition under which the automobile advances to a destination from a present place, the route search condition is changed automatically so as to give priority to the general road in such a way that the automobile is deviated from the search route before being transferred to the expressway so as to change a transfer interchange of the automobile when the search route by searching the route includes the expressway, and the route is searched on the basis of the changed search condition.
