PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress and prevent useless consumption of ink associated with nozzle recovery. SOLUTION: A printer comprises a plurality of head units 17 and 18 dividedly arranged in a direction which intersects a printing medium conveyance direction. A plurality of cleaning units 21 and 22 are disposed oppositely to the plurality of head units 17 and 18. At least one of the plurality of cleaning units 21 and 22 is selected to adhere to the opposed head unit 17 or 18. Thus, only the cleaning unit 21 or 22 opposed to the head unit 17 or 18 that requires recovery of nozzles is selected and adhered to the subject head unit 17 or 18 to suck the liquid from the nozzles of the head unit 17 or 18.
