PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal which can be readily operated from a closed state to an open state using one hand, and to provide an opening/closing operation method of the portable information terminal. SOLUTION: A portable information terminal 10 comprises a first case 1 including an operation unit, a second case 2 including a display unit, a connection mechanism 3 connecting the first case 1 and the second case 2, and a stand 18 provided on the first case 1. The connection mechanism 3 is configured so as to transit between a first state, where the second case 2 covers the operation unit and the display unit is exposed, and a second state, where the second case 2 exposes the operation unit.
