PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to select an image, which indicates the outline of all images, from among the images. SOLUTION: A digest generation part 160 groups similar images from among a plurality of images on the basis of similarity characteristics of respective images recorded in a similarity characteristics recording part 141 and a similarity threshold value of a parameter A of a parameter storage part 150, adds weighting to image scores, which are recorded in an image score-recording part 142 in correspondence to the respective images included in each group, with a weighting coefficient of the parameter A to find weighting-added values, and selects representative images from the respective groups on the basis of the values. Further, the digest generation part 160 carries out image-selecting processing in a similar manner by using a similarity threshold value and a weighting coefficient of a parameter B to select at least one representative image from the representative images selected by using the parameter A.
