PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing thermoplastic resin which is improved in the reaction efficiency and produces a high purity thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for producing thermoplastic resin which can efficiently produce a thermoplastic resin being excellent with respect to deterioration and foreign matters, by using a tandem type reaction extruder provided with a first extruder, a second extruder and a part connecting the resin delivery of the first extruder and the supply port of the second extruder, wherein a first step reaction treating the main raw materials and auxiliary material is carried out in the first extruder, and a second step reaction wherein the reaction product in the first extruder is further reacted with the other auxiliary material in the second extruder.
