PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermal print head which can easily make power consumption lower. SOLUTION: This thermal print head 10 comprises a substrate 1, a heating resistor 2 which is formed on the substrate, an electrode 3 which is arranged on the substrate in such a manner as to partially overlap the heating resistor and connected to the heating resistor, and a protective layer 5 for covering the heating resistor and the electrode. In the thermal print head 10, a head portion H includes the heating resistor, and an area, overlapping the heating resistor, of the electrode. The protective layer 5 of the thermal print head 10 is formed of a first protective layer 5a which is positioned on the head portion, and a second protective layer 5b which is arranged on the periphery of the first protective layer 5a.
