An information processing apparatus and a method therefor are provided to divide a list of contents about text data or image data and display the divided results. An information processing apparatus for displaying a list of plural contents stored in a memory device on a display unit comprises the followings: a sorting means for sorting the contents of objects to be displayed on a list, based on attribute values; a dividing means for dividing the list of the contents sorted by the sorting means into a plurality of partial lists; a decision means for determining one of the partial lists as the object to be displayed; an index making means for preparing indices corresponding to each of the partial lists; and a display data making means for preparing display data for displaying the partial list determined by the decision means and the index prepared by the index making means on the display unit. |
