PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable epoxy resin composition that is imparted with a high refractive index while retaining transparency of an epoxy resin by introducing a metal alkoxide into the epoxy resin and uniformly compounding them, and a cured product thereof. SOLUTION: The curable epoxy resin composition comprises as essential ingredients (A) an alkoxysilyl group-modified epoxy resin obtained by causing a silane compound (a-2) bearing both at least one mercapto group and at least one alkoxy group bonded to a silicon atom in one molecule to react with an epoxy group in an epoxy resin (a-1), (B) at least one metal alkoxide selected from the group consisting of titanium alkoxide, zirconium alkoxide and aluminum alkoxide and/or a hydrolyzate-partial condensate thereof, and (C) water.
