Method and system for recognizing IP television users. The method comprises: setting up (12) a short range radio link between at least one mobile terminal (1) and a set-top box (2); setting up a connection (13) between the set-top box (2) and at least one server (10) of a television content provider (4), wherein said connection (13) is unicast; authenticating (11) the subscriber corresponding to each of said at least one mobile terminal (1) through a wireless data network (6), obtaining from an identity provider (5) data relating to the subscriber of each mobile terminal (1); providing from said at least one mobile terminal (1) to the set-top box (2) at least one piece of said data relating to the subscriber of each mobile terminal (1); supplying said server (10) with said at least one piece of data relating to the subscriber of each mobile terminal (1) through said connection (13); locating (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) the profile of said subscriber from said at least one piece of data relating to said subscriber.
