A ventilation system (1) is adapted to synchronize the delivery of both positive pressure ventilation and negative pressure ventilation to a patient. The ventilation system (1) is structured to produce a positive pressure flow of gas (5) which is delivered to the patient's airway and a negative pressure flow of gas (15) which is converted into a negative extrathoracic pressure. The negative extrathoracic pressure is communicated to the patient in synchronism with the delivery of the positive pressure flow of gas (5). |
