<p>A tilting pad bearing assembly (100, Fig 1) consists of an array of bearing pads (1011 etc) each supported on a rigid carrier (105) by way of an intervening pivot ridge (1101) extending from the pad or carrier. Each pad has a pair of holes (1121, 1131), spaced apart in the direction of the pivot ridge and parallel to each other, each pad hole being aligned with a cooperating carrier hole (1161,1171). Associated with each aligned hole pair is a headed pin (1181,1191), conveniently a coiled spring pin having a shank (1241) and a flared end (1231). The pin shank is an interference fit in each pad hole and the hole depth is defined by a blind end (112'1,113'1) to limit pin penetration. Each carrier hole is a clearance fit for the pin shank and includes a shoulder (1201;1211) capable of supporting the pin head.
