<p>Semisynthetic penicillin of the formula (I) is prepd. by reacting 6-APA with a reactive acid deriv. of formula (II) in an inert solvent in the presence of an acid-binding agent. In the formulae, A represents a 1-3C aliphatic chain which may be saturated or unsaturated and which may contain as substituents 1-3C alkyl, hydroxy; lower alkoxy, lower acyloxy or amino, but when. A has an amino group as substituent this must be protected before converting the acid into its reactive derivative, by known methods, R is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen, but the gp. does not represent C6H5-CH=CH or C6H5-CH(CH2)-CH2- and X is halogen or the group C2H5-COO. The products have even better pharmaceutical and biological characteristics than many similar compounds which are now widely used in therapy.</p> |
