Halogenated cyclopentadiene-diadducts - used as fire preventing additives in plastics and rubbers

The adducts of formula (I):- are prepd. by reacting 2 moles of a halogenated cyclopentadiene of formula (II) with one mole of a cpd. Z (where X is halogen, Y is halogen, (halo)alkyl, or alkoxy with 1-10C atoms and Z is a bicycloheptadiene gp. (III) or a furan gp. (IV) where R is H or 1-6C alkyl). Adducts are used as fire prevention additives for plastics, esp. elastomers, e.g. ABS resin, butadiene-styrene rubber and EPDM rubber.
