A mobile terminal operating through the recognition of movement and a method for recognizing the movement in the mobile terminal are provided to make the terminal perform a specific function when a user rubs the mobile terminal. A mobile terminal operating through the recognition of movement comprises the followings: a housing(100) forming the external appearance of the mobile terminal; a recognition sensor(120,140) installed at a predetermined part of the housing to recognize that a user rubs the terminal; and a control module controlling a function corresponding to the rubbing operation. The recognition sensor is one of a contact sensor, an electrostatic sensor and an optics recognition sensor.
