[Also in Division C4] Synthetic fibre materials are dyed by an impregnation process from organic solvents which contain a dye of formula I in which R is a C 1 -C 17 alkyl or C 3 -C 17 alkenyl group, Y is H, Cl or Br or -X-R 1 in which X is oxygen or sulphur and R, is C 1 -C 18 alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aralkoxy-alkyl, or aryloxy-alkyl or phenyl radical optionally substituted by a C 1 -C 9 alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, C 1 -C 5 alkoxy, C 1 -C 5 alkylmercapto or C 1 -C 6 alkoxycarbonyl group and/or chlorine atoms the sum of carbon atoms in total in R and Y being at least 4 and at most 35, the fibre being subsequently heat treated, e.g. by a dry heat at 120-230‹C or by superheated solvent vapour at 100-150‹C. Fibres which are dyed include polyester, cellulose triacetate, synthetic polyamide, polyurethane and polyolefine, preferred solvents are tri- and tetrachloroethylene and 1,1,1-trichloroethane.
