A pile table 2 for a stack of sheets 3 is raised by a pawl 19, reciprocated through an eccentric pin 21 by a wheel 20 rotated from a sheethandling machine, and intermittently rotating a ratchet wheel 17 which rotates a pinion 18 engaging a rack 15 on a plate 11 fixed to the table. A spring 23 normally raises a plate 22 to hold the pawl clear of the ratchet wheel. When a solenoid 25 is energized by closing a microswitch 34 responsive to a fall in the level of the top of the stack, sensed by a roller 33, the plate 22 is lowered to engage the pawl. When a rod 29 is raised manually, a locking pawl 28, which normally prevents reverse rotation of the ratchet wheel, is released and a microswitch 32 is opened to de-energize the solenoid, so that the table is free to fall to its lowest position. Original sheets are fed to a photocopying machine on a belt 7 and the leading edge of each sheet closes a microswitch 8 to activate a separator roller 4 and feed a copy sheet from the stack along a belt 10 to be passed into the machine with the original. In another form, the solenoid 25 and plate 22 are omitted, the pawl 19 is in permanent engagement with the ratchet wheel, and the sensing roller 33 controls the drive to the wheel 20. |
