[Also in Division A3] A multi-layer sole is applied to a shoe upper 12 by injecting an elastomer 13 into an enlarged cavity 9, then moving a sole plate 2 slowly upwardly to press the material against the upper, and repeating the process for one or more subsequent layers. The sole plate 2 has a sprue channel 4 which decreases in cross-section in the direction away from a gate 5. The sprue 4 is connected to the mould cavity by channels 6, 7, 8 which increase in cross-section from one channel to the next. The channels widen out from the sprue towards the mould cavity. A uniform distribution of the material in the cavity can be ensured by appropriately selecting the number, distribution and cross-section of the injection channels, and the injection speed. |
