A package comprises a tray and a cover sheet secured to the peripheral edge of the tray, a generally straight line of weakness extending across the cover sheet and dividing the cover sheet into first and second sections, and a pull tab extending from one end of the first section, overlying the whole length of this section and projecting beyond the other end thereof. As described, the tray 10 contains photosensitive (e.g. X-ray film) sheets and the package is shown within a light-proof compartment 20. Fig. 3 shows the tab 15 being pulled through a slot 25 formed in a door 22 of the compartment, the first section of the cover sheet 13 thus being torn away from the package to reveal the upper portions of the photosensitive sheets 17 (Fig. 1). The tab, apart from its free end, is of the same width as the first section, Fig. 2 (not shown). The cover sheet may be of polyethylene, oriented to form a plurality of lines of weakness. The cover may comprise a laminate of the oriented polyethylene, a layer of opaque aluminium foil and a black, heat-sealable layer. Alternatively, a single line of weakness may be provided, e.g. by forming partial perforations in the cover sheet. The light-proof compartment shown includes sealing formations 23, 24 round the edges of the door 22 and door frame, flaps defining the edges of slot 25 to render the latter light-proof, and suction cups 28 for removing successive sheets 17 from the package. |
