<p>A prepreg 12, for manufacturing a fibre-reinforced composite material, and comprises a layer 8 of dry fibres and a layer 6 of resin material 4 adhered to a surface 9 of the layer 8 of dry fibres, the resin material 4 having a plurality of filler particles 2 dispersed therein and the particles 2 having an average particle size d1 that is larger than the average fibre separation d2 of the layer 8 of dry fibres. During curing, the resin is heated to allow it to flow into regions 14 of fibre reinforcement layer 8 for wetting of the fibre surface. This permits the particles 2 to be filtered by the layer 8, as the particles 2 cannot penetrate the separation d2. There is, additionally, disclosed a fibre reinforced composite material with a layer of fibres and plural particles within a resin matrix wherein, a first region of the matrix disposed at a surface of the layer of fibres has a higher concentration of particles than a second region of the matrix disposed within the layer of fibres. A method of manufacturing a composite using the prepreg 12 is also claimed.</p> |
