In making rubber gasket rings of profiled, varying cross-section, a continuous profiled strand is extruded and wound onto a profiled mandrel. The material is then vulcanized or allowed to harden and then removed from the mandrel and cut into lengths of individual sealing strips and the butting ends are sealed to form the closed ring. Pref. the ends are form locked together and then adhered, vulcanized or stapled etc. together. For pipe flanges, pistons, shafts etc. Individual sealing segments can be manufactured which can be later put together to form a complicated ring profile. |
