A secondary battery including a protection circuit module is provided to reduce the whole length of a secondary battery by positioning a current breaking element in hole or groove to compensate for the thickness which the current breaking element occupies. A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly(100) including two electrodes and a separator(130); a can(200) accommodating an electrode assembly and electrolyte; a bare cell equipped with the cap assembly including the cap-plate(350) closing the opening of can; a current breaking element located on the surface of the cap plate; and a protection circuit module(390) positioned on the top of the bare cell. The protection circuit module comprises a hole(383) in the location corresponding to the current breaking element.
