A method for the cleaning of urban waste water by the use of natural scolecite rich in minerals of HEU type of the group of scolecites. Scolecites constitute a group of hydrated minerals the structure of which is made of a three dimensional aluminosilicate grid. The theoretical capacity of scolecites of HEU type for ion exchange ranges from 254-291 meq/100g. The ion exchanging capacity of 226 meq/100g, of the natural scolecite that has been used is one of the highest observed in natural materials. The disposition of great quantities of urban waste water burdened with inorganic, organic, organo-mineral, aerial substances and minerals on the natural receptors causes intense problems of pollution such as: reduction of the capacity of self-cleaning of waters, eutrophication and destruction of bio-societies, degradation of environment etc. In many cases bad smells, infectious diseases and deaths of aquatic organisms appear. In order to handle the above problems various cleaning methods of urban waste water have been developed, so that they are rejected clearly on the natural receptors. At the same time, laws have been enacted related to the prevention and the limitation of water polluting and the disposition limits of waste waters on the natural receptors. Natural scolecite rich in scolecite of HEU type has not been used systematically in any of the cleaning methods until today. The treatment of the waste water with natural scolecite rich in scolecite of HEU type has provided an odorless and firm waste water sludge as sediment, namely odorless and useful material, friendly to plants, to the environment and to man. This material by its turn can be deposited safely or can be used as fertilizer in agricultural crops. The treatment of waste water with natural scolecite rich in scolecite of HEU type has produced clear water, enriched in oxygen, without smells, as well as multiple reduced capacities in inorganic, organic organo-mineral, aerial substances and minerals, fulfilling the specifications of use for its disposition on natural receptors, for irrigation, for soft surface water for swimming and for the living of fish. |
