PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the thermal efficiency of a die and to shorten the cycle time of molding by reducing its whole length while maintaining the precision of eccentricity. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an optical element, an optical element stock 30 is heated and softened, the confronted upper die 22 and lower die 24 are relatively made to approach, and the optical element stock 30 is pressurized and deformed, so as to mold an optical element 31. Then, till the optical element stock 30 is heated and softened, the upper sleeve 26 provided so as to correspond to the upper die 22 and the lower sleeve 8 provided so as to correspond to the lower die 24 are engaged, and, in a process where the optical element stock 30 is pressurized and deformed, the upper die 22 relatively approach the lower die 24, and the upper die 22 is engaged with the lower sleeve 28.
