PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect and correct a defective pixel while preventing erroneous detection even when the defective pixels densely exist in an imaging element. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with the imaging element for imaging an object image, and a storage part for dividing the imaging region of the imaging element into a plurality of regions and storing the address of a pixel judged as the defective pixel by the detection of a detection level different for each region on the basis of imaging element output. Also, the defective pixel is a white defective pixel to be recognized as a white spot on an image based on the imaging element output, the detection level in the detection is determined by a threshold to be the comparison object of the imaging element output, and the threshold can be a value smaller in the region wherein the density of the white defective pixels is equal to or more than the prescribed density than in the region wherein the density of the white defective pixels is less than the prescribed density. Also, by changing the threshold stepwise in the detection, the region wherein the density of the white defective pixels is less than the prescribed density and the region wherein the density of the white defective pixels is equal to or more than the prescribed density can be discriminated.
