PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive bi-directional optical module that effectively reduces reflection return light of a signal light emitted outside a package, without using an isolator, a cut filter or the like. SOLUTION: The bi-directional optical module is equipped with: a package part 2 in which a cap having a lens 7 is attached in a sealable manner onto a stem mounted with a semiconductor light emitting element 4 for emitting transmission light, a semiconductor light receiving element 5 for receiving reception light, and a wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing filter 6; a sleeve part 12 which has a stab 13 for forming connection with an external optical transmission line; and a holder 9 which joins the package part 2 and the sleeve part 12. An aperture 11 for passing the transmission/reception light is provided on a partition wall 10 in the upper part of the holder 9, with the reflection return light of the transmission light diffusely reflected on the wall face of the aperture 11, thereby reducing the reentry of the reflection return light of the signal light into the package part.
