PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can evade an unnecessary high voltage application by applying transfer voltage appropriately under each environmental temperature, and is high in reliability without any possibility of causing pixel defects. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with: a pair of substrates 101, 102 arranged opposite to each other; a liquid crystal layer held between the pair of substrates 101, 102 and containing liquid crystal particles whose initial orientation is different from orientation for display; a display part 103 comprised of a plurality of display pixels PX arranged like a matrix; and a transfer circuit CT which supplies transfer voltage Vout (+), Vout (-) applied to the liquid crystal layer in order to promote transfer of liquid crystal particles in power start. Wherein, the transfer circuit CT has a temperature compensation means R(T) for varying size of the transfer voltage Vout (+), Vout (-) according to the temperature of the surroundings.
