PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device of a FFS (Fringe Field Switching) mode that suppresses the occurrence of defective rubbing without increasing the electrical resistance of an electrode layer. SOLUTION: On an element substrate 10 of the liquid crystal device 100, an upper layer side of a thin film transistor 30 is covered with an interlayer insulating film 6 made of an organic flattening film, and a common electrode 9a is formed as a flattened electrode in the upper layer of the interlayer insulating film 6. An interelectrode insulating film 8 is formed on the common electrode 9a and a pixel electrode 7a having slit-shaped gap parts 7b is formed thereon. Since the pixel electrode 7a having the slit-shaped gap parts 7b has a thin film thickness as compared with the flattened common electrode 9a, rubbing treatment is suitably performed.
