PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high heat-resistant polyazomethine excellent in surface flatness, and its film. SOLUTION: The polyazomethine having a substituted or unsubstituted hydroxyl group, a thiol group or an amino group at an ortho-position relative to an azomethine group, and its film are obtained. According to the present invention, the polyazomethine film excellent in heat-resistance having surface roughness (Ra, arithmetic average roughness) of 40 nm or less and 10% weight reduction temperature of 250°C or higher is obtained, and is preferable as electric and electronic part materials.
