The method involves interacting with an exhaust apparatus (4) of an internal-combustion engine dependent on a switching position of the gas exhaust valve (13). The exhaust gas temperature of an exhaust gas of the internal-combustion engine is determined. An ethanol content of a fuel (52) is determined, which is dependent on the exhaust gas temperature of the exhaust gas. The combustion chamber (9) of the internal-combustion engine is measured out for a combustion process.
