BORON NANOPARTICLE OR BORON-CONTAINING NANOPARTICLE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity boron carbide nanoparticles usable for neutron capture therapy under such mild conditions as room temperature and ordinary pressure without requiring any special atmosphere control. SOLUTION: The method for producing nanoparticles includes irradiating amorphous boron particles dispersed in a solvent with laser light to produce crystalline boron nanoparticles or boron-containing nanoparticles containing≥10 at.% of boron, wherein the nanoparticles have an average particle diameter of 1-500 nm. A method for surface modifying nanoparticles is also provided including modifying surfaces of nanoparticles produced by the method for producing nanoparticles with an organic molecule or polymer.
