PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus usable for an extended period. SOLUTION: An MFP that can communicate with a server storing a plurality of types of update programs and update information including update states of a plurality of types of functions comprises a flash memory for storing an executable program, a function execution part for executing the executable program, and when at least one of the plurality of types of functions is executed, storing history information on the execution of the function in the flash memory (S03), a determination part (S06) for determining an update target portion of the executable program to be updated and a target program to update the executable program out of the plurality of types of update programs stored in the server according to the history information and the update information stored in the server, and an updating part (S10) for updating the update target portion of the executable program with the determined target program.
