PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the content of residual components in a polymer powder recovered when a polymer latex obtained by emulsion polymerization is spray-dried by means of a circulation spray dryer equipped with a condenser. SOLUTION: The method is one for producing a polymer powder comprising the step of obtaining a polymer latex by emulsion polymerization and the step of recovering the polymer powder from the polymer latex as a powder by spray-drying the polymer latex by means of a circulation-type spray dryer equipped with a condenser, wherein only a polymerization initiator having a water solubility of 2 mass% or higher at 20°C is used in the emulsion polymerization.
