PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide niobium oxide powder suitable for use in glass and in a single crystal. SOLUTION: The niobium oxide powder has a spectral reflectance at 500 nm wavelength of≥95%, a spectral reflectance at 400 nm wavelength of≥75% and a spectral reflectance at 320 nm wavelength of≤10% as measured on the basis of a standard white plate. Since the niobium oxide powder is excellent in fluidity and in uniform mixability, and when glass is formed using the powder, it is made uniform in refractive index, and in single crystal growth, the composition ratio of a fired product of the niobium oxide powder mixed with lithium carbonate or the like can be stabilized.
