A negative electrode material for a secondary battery and a secondary battery containing the same as a negative electrode is provided to reduce environmental toxic materials generated in a negative electrode active material manufacturing process and the impurity content of raw materials, and to prevent the impurity side reaction, thereby increasing efficiency and cycleability of the negative electrode material. A negative electrode material for a secondary battery is produced by coating low crystalline carbon to a carbon core material and calcining it. The carbon core material is previously dried and washed before the low crystalline carbon coating. The washing is carried out at a room temperature to 50 deg.C.
