The process involves carrying out lambda controlling of an internal combustion engine (1) and on-board diagnosis of an oxygen-stored catalytic converter (2) based on a voltage signal of mono lambda sensors (3). The mono lambda sensors are arranged within the catalytic converter. An optimal position of the mono lambda sensors is determined w.r.t a longitudinal axis (L) of the catalytic converter. The determined optimal position is considered with the lambda controlling of the engine and the on-board diagnosis of the catalytic converter. |
