<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protein and nucleic acid useful for the study and/or production of vaccines. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed are proteins containing a specific amino acid sequence and derived from Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and a nucleic acid molecule encoding these proteins. These proteins are antigens useful for a vaccine, immunological composition and/or diagnostic agent. They are also useful for distinguishing between gonococcus and meningococcus and, in particular, between gonococcus and serogroup B meningococcus. The proteins are naturally prepared by various means such as recombinant expression, purification from Neisseria, and chemical synthesis in various forms such as natural products and fusion products.
